I Quit Overthinking for 30 Days Using One Rule — Here's What Happened
It was 2 AM. I was lying in bed, wide
awake, replaying a conversation from
three days ago.
Not solving anything. Just... looping.
Sound familiar?
I'd been doing this for years.
Overthinking every decision, every
interaction, every plan. My mind was
a browser with 47 tabs open — and
none of them were loading.
Then I discovered one rule that
changed everything.
---
THE 90-SECOND RULE
Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, a Harvard brain
scientist, discovered something
remarkable:
Any emotion — including anxiety and
overthinking — only lasts 90 seconds
in your body.
After that? You're choosing to keep
it going.
Here's the 3-step system I used:
STEP 1: NAME IT
"I'm overthinking the meeting
from Tuesday."
Just naming it interrupts the loop.
STEP 2: FEEL IT
Don't fight it. Let the 90 seconds
happen. Breathe through it.
STEP 3: REDIRECT IT
Ask: "What's one thing I can
control right now?"
Then do that one thing.
---
THE RESULT AFTER 30 DAYS
→ Fell asleep faster
→ Made decisions in minutes, not days
→ Stopped replaying old conversations
→ Started trusting myself again
---
This system is the foundation of
my book Beyond Thought.
